Bee and Wasp Control

While bees can be a very important part of the Louisiana ecosystem, their place is not hanging around your house or yard where your family is trying to live.

And wasps, hornets, and other stinging insects are always a nuisance. These pests can cause everything from annoyance to serious medical emergencies, so it’s always best to remove them from your living area.

Bees or Wasps?

Many Southern Louisiana homeowners can live peacefully with bees, who may be beneficial for a garden, for example. But only certain bees are harmless, and if you mistake wasps for bees, you could have a dangerous pest on your hand. The easiest way to tell the difference between wasps, stinging bees, and the harmless, beneficial variety of bees, is to look at the nests.

Honeybees and bumblebees, the helpful and usually harmless variety, will create large hives that house honey. If you keep your distance from the hive, you can usually coexist with this type of bee very easily. These hives may even be underground.

Stinging bees and wasps may also nest underground, but usually the easiest way to tell the difference is to look at the outside of a nest.

If you can see the hexagon shape of exposed cells, that is a honeybee nest. Wasps and stinging bees don’t build these cells because they don’t store honey.

If you’ve discovered wasps or stinging bees on your property, or if you’ve decided you’d rather not risk it with the honeybees either, the best course of action is to notify the professionals.

Approaching a nest of insects that can sting could be very dangerous for you, your pets, your children, or your guests. We have the proper tools and equipment to remove these pests from your area so that you can enjoy your space again.

Our Treatment Program

In order to keep you safe, we have a multi-step treatment program for eradicating wasps and bees:

  • First we inspect your entire property, identifying any swarms and ensuring that we find where they are nesting. This is a crucial step because removing the entire nest is the only way to get these insects off your property.
  • Next, we eliminate the swarm and the nest through the proper method based on what type of pest you have.
  • We may also discuss performing a colony removal, which means removing the honeycomb colony to ensure that new bees, ants, and other pests do not show up to take advantage of the free meal. If a honeycomb was attached to your house, the liquefied honey could cause mold and rot, so this is another important step in the eradication process.
  • Next we can discuss prevention techniques for the future. We may recommend certain traps that use pheromones to attract swarms to a trap if your area is commonly infested.

With those measures in place, your home should soon become a bee-free and wasp-free oasis.
